A Level and IB French Cheese Tasting
5th June 2024

On 22nd May, the A Level and IB French students had the opportunity to enjoy a delicious French cheese-tasting session or "dégustation de fromage français" organised by Madame McDonald and the French department.

It was a lovely event full of fun, food and French language and despite bringing packed lunches, most people left L08 that day with full stomachs and untouched sandwiches.

The cheese was "superbe" and there was something for everyone, whether mild or sharp, and all paired with non-alcoholic wine. We tried a whole range of cheeses including Brie de Meaux, Camembert, Reblochon, Roquefort and Chèvre, so everyone found at least one to their taste, but even those less keen on the cheese itself could enjoy the delicious bread from La Boulangerie Artisan with French butter.

Never ones to miss an opportunity to impart more French knowledge unto their eager pupils, the session also included a PowerPoint on the geography of the cheeses we tried and fun worksheets which taught us cheese-related vocabulary, including what a stinky cheese can be called, as well as ensuring that we were well aware of exactly where the cheeses on offer had originated from.

All in all, students and teachers alike had a fantastic time and we expressed our appreciation at the end with a hearty round of applause for the teachers who had put in so much effort to make this amazing cheese tasting the rousing success that it was.
