On Saturday 6th May, we had the privilege of being joined in College by Animals in Hands. They are a group of people giving children the opportunity to see and learn about animals that have been rescued due to the illegal trade of exotic wildlife. Animals in Hands rescue these animals and give them a safe place to live.
Firstly, we passed around the chameleon. We learnt that it does not change colour for camouflage, but depending on their mood. We then met a bearded dragon whose claws were like Velcro, so when we were holding it it stuck to our clothes.
Thirdly, the tortoise went around our group which was very cute. Unlike the chameleon, it tried climbing up me and didn’t hide in his shell. We then met a skunk called Oreo - we didn’t get to hold it because the python was coming up next and we didn’t want it to see us as prey from smelling us!
We also got to meet an owl and her feathers were very soft, as well as having the opportunity to hold a tarantula, stick insects and many more! Finally, many of us got to hold the python. To my surprise the scales were very smooth and it had an interesting texture.
We really enjoyed meeting all these animals and I hope we get to meet new and interesting animals again next time!
