In the Spring Term, The Queen’s College, University of Oxford, hosted a translation competition, named after Anthea Bell – a famous English translator who produced English translations of Kafka, Sebald and even the Astérix comics! Preparation for the competition included tackling translations of poetry, fiction and non-fiction. All texts were rich in cultural content, to help students learn more about the countries where that language is spoken, as well as giving their linguistic skills a real-life application.
We are delighted to announce that the following students were named regional winners of the competition:
Aida (UC4 / Year 10) – Level 2 Italian – South West winner
Jasmine and Helena (both UC4 / Year 10) – Level 3 Spanish – South West winners
Mikayla (LC2 / Year 8) – Level 1 Mandarin – South West winner
Cynthia (UC4 / Year 10) – Level 3 Mandarin – South West winner
Zixi (UC4 / Year 10) – Level 3 German – South West highly commended
A special congratulations goes to Cynthia, whose translation went on to win the national competition!
