On Wednesday 29th January, Nadia (SFC1) presented her talk on the Paula Rego’s ‘Nativity’ (2011) at the Articulation Regional Final at the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum, Coventry.
Each year over 1000 young people enter the nationwide competition, with nine speakers taking part in the Coventry event. Nadia was awarded an impressive second place, with the adjudicator, Tatyana Kalaydjian Serraino, commenting that her presentation was “well-structured, highly engaging, and very well-delivered”, bringing together “art historical analysis, contextual information, and personal insight”.
Nadia has been invited to become part of the Articulation Alumni.
A week before the Regional Final, Nadia gave her presentation to students at College.
Nadia’s Articulation presentation was a fascinating and thought-provoking portrayal of Paula Rego’s ‘Nativity’. Unlike traditional depictions of the Virgin Mary, this painting presented the birth of Jesus from the perspective of Mary.
I thought Nadia tied in the message of the painting well, by delving deeper into the artist’s backstory and why she decided to create this powerful depiction of such a famous story, in such a striking style.”
