On Thursday 11th January, 30 SFC1s chose to participate in the annual, open invitation, Athena Ko Economics Essay Prize competition, a prestigious internal essay competition, funded by CLC alumna and Guild member Athena Ko who read PPE at Oxford and also attended Harvard Business School.
The competition invited students to answer one of three unseen essay questions in 1 hour, on topics including the likely impact of AI on future labour markets, the dominance of global corporations and their impact on the economic community and the conflicts between achieving the dual objectives of poverty reduction and environmental sustainability.
Subsequent judging took place over two rounds by members of the Economics department, before culminating in the Summer Term in an interview with the final round judge, Mr Houchin, a former Head of Economics and now Director of Admissions at College.

2nd Place | Annette | £500 |

My congratulations to the winning entries and sincere thanks to all those who choose to participate, who can feel rightly proud of their efforts, as well as to the Economics Department, Mr Houchin and Ms Jardine-Young for their support through all stages of this competition.
Mr Ratinckx, Head of Economics
