On Monday 11th March, we were fortunate to have a visit from Bridget Riley, the renowned British painter and CLC alumna. She was revisiting one of her works, which hangs in the Reception of College, and also spent time with some of our Sixth Form Art and History of Art students, both in the classroom and over lunch.
Amelia, who is currently working with portraiture as part of the A Level course said ‘When Bridget Riley talked to me, she reminded me of the historical significance of portraiture. She encouraged me to think more broadly about the origins of my subject matter and see beyond the thing itself to the myriad of its representations by renowned artists such as Picasso.’
While Sybil reflected on the experience in general; ‘It was the greatest pleasure and privilege to meet someone so awe inspiring, wise, and truly remarkable! Learning and discussing with her the power of looking and understanding was an unbelievable experience, one I’m sure I will never forget!’
And indeed, it is perhaps an experience none of us will forget - a remarkable day.
