For the 10th episode of the Cheltenham Ladies’ College Podcast, Mrs Davidson (Head Houseparent of Eversleigh) and LC1 Day students Erin, Alexandra and Alice, talk all about what life is like as a CLC Day Girl.
Prospective day students might be concerned that joining a boarding school could mean they feel excluded from the community. However, at CLC, we believe every student is a vital part of our community. Staff ensure all pupils feel included.
“You definitely won’t feel left out. We interact so much with the boarders that we’re basically one big family, and you can invite them over and it’s all great fun” – Alice
“My greatest worry when I was coming here was that we’d be Day and Boarders, but we’re all integrated and mixed. We’re in lesson groups together and at breaktime you have them to play with and you can invite them over after school” – Erin
The Houseparent’s at CLC work hard to ensure House is a warm and homely environment. Although Eversleigh is a Day House, students and pastoral staff still form strong bonds.
“In Eversleigh, we try and make it feel like a family. You have House leaders, so not only do you know your own peer group, but then you know the girls all the way up through the years and they all look out for each other…The older girls really like helping the younger girls.”
“We have pastoral assistants and they come in and help and they run clubs and they spend a lot of time with the girls and talking to them. They just love being here and part of the House, and I think it really helps with the whole feel of the House and that friendly, homely feel” - Mrs Davidson
Starting in a new environment can feel daunting and bring a mix of nerves and excitement. For some prospective students, there may be some anxiety about making friends, but at College, we have lots of activities in place to help build strong relationships that will last a lifetime.
“Coming to CLC has given me lots of great opportunities to meet new people and make new friends… Every friend I’ve got, they’re each from a different place. I have friends from around the world.” – Alexandra
“I think CLC has made me stretch academically and with my confidence. I think I’ve made a lot of new friends. [CLC has] helped me grow and find myself... It’s such a happy community. You’ll feel like you’ve settled in right away” – Erin
A Day student at CLC has access to a global education. We are proud to celebrate a diverse environment where every culture is welcomed and students can learn from each other.
“Even though they are Day girls, they meet so many girls from all round the world and they have a great understanding of different cultures” – Mrs Davidson
“It’s really interesting getting to know lots of different people from lots of different places. It makes the learning experience more fun and interesting” – Erin
