For the fourth episode of the Cheltenham Ladies’ College Podcast, we’re joined by Jo Hucker, Assistant Director of Sport Engagement and Head of Strength & Conditioning, and Hannah Clarke, Strength & Conditioning Coach, to discuss the menstrual cycle and how it affects female athletes' performance.
Throughout this episode, Jo and Hannah explain the different phases of the menstrual cycle and uncover how they affect the body, emotional wellbeing, and recovery from physical activity.
They also share the positive effects exercise can have on the body during the cycle, whilst myth-busting common incorrect period-related statements.
It’s important for all individuals to remember that everyone’s body is different and you shouldn’t compare your cycle to someone else.
It’s really good to be able to celebrate individuality amongst the pupils and for them to really relish the fact that we are all different and that makes life much more exciting.
If at all you feel worried, go and speak to someone. Go and see the school nurse, speak to your GP or ask your teachers. - Jo Hucker
At CLC we recognise that discussing the menstrual cycle should not be a taboo topic. Teaching, pastoral and medical staff all create a safe and supportive environment where students can ask questions freely without embarrassment.
