For the ninth episode of the Cheltenham Ladies’ College podcast, we’re getting into the festive spirit and talking all things Christmas!
We were delighted to welcome Guild member Katy Bagnall (née Ruck, 1971 - 1978) to College to join Claudia (SFC2) and Tahlia (LC2) to share their favourite CLC Christmas memories.
The festive period at CLC is always highly anticipated by students, and is a fond and warm memory for many Guild members.
[A] tradition we had in St Austin’s was that on the night of the Christmas party when we watched the plays…the Prefects would come round to the dorms after we were all tucked up and sing carols to us, and bring us hot chocolate in bed which was beyond exciting. - Katy
At CLC, the festive period is a chance to celebrate as community and is a period of reflection where we recognise everything that we are thankful for.
[Celebrating together] I think fosters relationships, builds community, enhances a sense of belonging and a sense of purpose. - Katy
Christmas is a time to be grateful for what you have. Especially being here, in an environment with so many supportive people, with so many different opportunities and activities for us to take part in. This is a good time for us to stop and notice how lucky we are to be around all of this. - Claudia
Even if students don’t traditionally celebrate Christmas, the festive period allows students to take occasional pauses from their studies and enjoy some fun activities and laughter with friends and staff.
Even if you’re not celebrating Christmas at home, it just gives you an opportunity to spend time with your friends. - Claudia
[Last year was my first Christmas at College]. It was really cool. I wasn’t expecting the staff pantomine which was really awesome. - Tahlia
[My favourite Christmas tradition at CLC] is probably decorating the Houses and our form rooms at College. It’s a lot of fun to do with your friends. - Tahlia
Perhaps the most exciting part of Christmas at CLC is the annual Christmas Concert. Each year, students across College come together to perform to staff, students, parents and the wider College community.
The Christmas Concert is right before term ends and it brings everybody together. Especially right at the end, we have Jazz Band playing a Christmas song and it’s the perfect send off into the holidays. - Claudia
At College, we see the full picture. We know how important prioritising wellbeing is, alongside academic excellence, to ensure our students have a successful and happy future.
