This year’s Christmas concert took place in front of an absolutely packed-out Princess Hall on Thursday 14th December.
The programme was full of pieces covering a whole breadth of musical styles from Vaughan Williams’ Greensleeves, to Michael Jackson’s epic track, Thriller. Over 240 students, or indeed a quarter of the student role, performed in the concert; Symphony Orchestra, String Serenaders, Symphonic Wind Band, Sinfonia, Percussion Ensemble, Jazz Band, Lower College Choir and College Choir all dazzling us with their skill and obvious enjoyment. We were also lucky to be treated to a wonderful performance of Glinka’s Piano trio by some of our senior Music Scholars – as you can see, quite an extensive list!
However, there is more. The Christmas Concert would not be the same without our wonderful Vocal Ensembles. We were serenaded by both the SFC and UC5 ensembles, bringing that extra special ‘Christmas feel’ to proceedings.
The concert would not have been complete without the wonderful composition and indeed ‘world premiere’ of a song written for voice and piano by one of our SFC2 Music Scholars – Sandy.
The whole evening was such a joy, making many people very happy and finishing the term with a spring in their step and bringing Christmas that little bit closer.
