Christmas Events Roundup 2024
11th December 2024

Christmas Concert

The annual Christmas Concert went down a storm on the evening of 12th December. With a wide range of styles on show, a third of the student roll took to the stage to dazzle the audience with Christmas showstoppers, orchestral masterpieces and jazzy soul bossas.

Some of the performances included The Incredibles theme tune by the Symphonic Wind Band, the Gospel Choir singing Wade In The Water, a rendition of Revolting Children by the Lower College Choir and Santa Clause Is Coming To Town by the Jazz Band.

A huge congratulations to all involved in such a colourful and vibrant evening of music!

LC Tree Decorating

Each year, LC1 and LC2 enjoy decorating Lower Hall with Christmas decorations.

Students wrote their wishes on baubles and decorated the tree together, filling the room with festive fun and cheer.

Christmas Jumper Day

On Monday 9th December, staff and students enjoyed dressing up in Christmas jumpers.

From a reindeer sweatshirt to a turkey hat, it was a great way to get into the festive spirit.

SFC Christmas Prefect Events

Without a doubt, the Christmas season is one of the busiest times of the year for the Prefects - and perhaps for the whole school. Yet, it is unquestionably my favourite. Over the past week, the Prefects have organised a wide range of activities and events, all aimed at spreading festive cheer and brightening everyone’s end of term.

The celebrations began on Monday where the Prefects took over the Prayers slot. As is tradition, the whole school joined in an exuberant rendition of The 12 Days of Christmas, filling the hall with energy and laughter. This year, we decided to add a twist by hosting what I believe to be the first ever Prefect Christmas Talent Show during prayers! Farah and I had the pleasure of hosting, and we showcased four group performances: a worm competition, a dance routine, a CLC rendition of Jingle Bells, and a disappearing act.

Later that morning, the festivities continued with Santa’s Grotto, where students could take photos with Father Christmas (myself) and our enthusiastic team of Prefect elves.

On Monday and Tuesday evening, the Prefects went caroling around all the boarding houses. Armed with a speaker borrowed from Cambray, we ran from House to House, singing Christmas classics and encouraging the girls to join us in dancing and singing. It was an absolute highlight, bringing jubilation and delight to everyone involved.

Wednesday brought a school-wide scavenger hunt, designed by Alexandra, Grace, Heidi, and Maddy. Pupils deciphered clues to find 12 hidden baubles, each containing a letter, which they then unscrambled to reveal the secret Christmas word and earn an edible prize.

On Thursday, the celebrations continued with a Christmas-themed Kahoot in Lower Hall, where students put their holiday knowledge to the test.

Additionally, throughout the last week of Prayers, we continued the custom of the advent calendar, whereby a mystery member of staff appears through wrapping paper each day to announce the winners of each year group, adding excitement and anticipation to everyone’s day.

Although not pupil-organised, my favourite event has been the Spirit of Christmas, at which many Prefects, SFC2 and LC1 pupils spent their Saturday morning. It was truly heartwarming to be able to bring joy to so many young children, and to help their Christmas be as magical and special as possible.

To conclude the week’s festivities, the Prefects treated the staff to some caroling during Friday breaktime, which was a wonderful way to end the term on a high note, filled with laughter, music, and festive cheer.

A huge thank you to all the prefects for their wholehearted engagement and enthusiasm in planning and bringing these activities to life.

Wishing you all a happy holidays, and a Merry Christmas when it comes!

Christmas Cake Competition

Each year, students and staff get excited for the annual House Christmas Cake Competition.

The cakes were judged by a team of staff who were amazed by the creativity and quality of all the entries.

After they were judged, the cakes were donated to Cheltenham OpenDoor and Cheltenham Foodbank.

Christingle Service

In this season of advent, we were delighted to join with the Religious Studies and Philosophy Department in welcoming all the LC1 girls to partake in a Christingle Service in the Quiet Room.

A Christingle service explores important themes about light overcoming darkness and gives the girls an opportunity to reflect on the message of hope shared at Christmas. May they shine brightly as lights in our world.

Food and Nutrition Christmas Baking

Food and Nutrition students have been busy getting in the festive spirit with some great baking this month.

LC1 have been making truffles, LC2 have been making scone Christmas trees, LC3 have made their own puff pastry to make Christmas stars and UC4 have made yule logs.

Well done everyone!

Eversleigh Christmas Games

During the last week of term, Eversleigh hosted a Christmas games afternoon for all year groups to attend.

They played a range of fun games including teams racing against each other to dress as snowmen. They also played the Chocolate Game where students had to wear gloves, scarves and goggles, and eat a chocolate bar using a knife and fork.

Service of Lessons and Carols

As always at the end of term, a highlight was our Service of Lessons and Carols. The opportunity to hear some hope filled readings and to join in with the joyous carols of the season sends us on our way, truly in the Christmas spirit.

Our thanks especially go to the College Choir for their beautiful singing and to those girls who read so confidently.

Happy Christmas, with love from the Chaplaincy Team.
