Bebras Computational Thinking Challenge 2023
In the second half of term, students took part in the 2023 UK Bebras Computational Thinking Challenge. This is a timed challenge that consists of a set of short tasks that are fun, engaging, and based on real problems faced by computer scientists.
Across all competing year groups, 80 students placed in the top ten percent nationally and are receiving a Gold Certificate and an invitation to the Oxford Computing Challenge taking place in the new year.

CyberCenturion X
Three teams (10 students) participated in two rounds of the CyberCenturion competition run by STEM Learning. This is a defensive cyber security challenge requiring students to secure a number of different Linux operating systems by completing tasks such as removing malicious software, installing updates, and implementing security policies. The competition allows them to gain a deeper understanding of the concepts and threats of cyber security, benefiting their technical expertise and developing their critical thinking, teamwork and communication skills.
Out of 274 teams competing nationally, the SFC2 team (Aerin, Chloe and Eleanor) performed best of the CLC entrants (Round 1: 171/200 - 112th, Round 2: 118/200 - 95th). The UC (Audrey, Giselle and Marta) and SFC1 (Jessica, Kara, Sasha and Tilly) teams were very competitive with each other, with only two points separating them in Round 1 (UC: 166/200 - 122nd and SFC1: 164/200 - 161st). However, SFC1 rallied in Round 2 (UC: 67/200 - 222nd and SFC1: 82/200 - 192nd).
With each round being four hours long, we are proud of the high levels of motivation and determination shown by the students throughout.
