Dr Zoe Williams Talk
11th July 2024

When we heard that Dr Zoe Williams was available to visit CLC to talk about her work and new book, we said yes please – and we are glad we did! Dr Williams, a media doctor, podcaster and author, is also a London NHS GP and she sits on various advisory boards for health and wellbeing.

Not only did we have the chance to hear all about her recent book, You Grow Girl, but most importantly, we were inspired by Dr Zoe Williams’ story and charisma – what an interesting individual she is!

Dr Williams, who exemplified health and wellbeing on the Princess Hall stage on Wednesday 19th June, held the audience captive from start to finish. In addition to learning about her early life, and ways she overcame hindrances and disappointments, we were also thrilled to hear about her passion for sport and success in playing rugby, as well as her experience as a TV Gladiator (Dr Williams rose to media prominence as Amazon in the UK television series Gladiators, and she has previously played rugby in the Premiership Division).

Dr Williams explained how sport had been key to her wellbeing and success in life, and she also shared how various challenges were overcome. There had been people along the way on her journey who expressed doubts about what she could achieve, and there were significant setbacks, but she kept the words of encouragement from her mother - “yes you can” - in her heart.

Dr Williams’ fascinating account about why she wrote You Grow Girl, as well as the importance of positive self-talk, taking care of our minds and appreciating our amazing bodies helped to encourage LC students to foster their own wellbeing. Many chose to acquire their own copy of You Grow Girl, which is packed with easy-to-understand information, myth-busting advice and fun illustrations. It is billed as the ultimate growing-up guide for girls who want to feel empowered, informed and positive about becoming the very best version of themselves.
