The summer concert this year was a resounding success! We were not able to muster the fine weather that often accompanies this wonderful event, but the warmth of the audience certainly made up for it.
As always, the breadth of programming meant for a joyous evening. The concert started with the masterful pen of Vaughan Williams and his English Folk Song Suite, with some fine playing from Symphony Orchestra. The first half continued with some beautiful Vivaldi along with Monti’s Czardas performed by the String Serenaders, before College Choir delivered a spell-binding performance of Schubert’s Psalm 23, before launching into Carly Simon’s hit Let the River Run. Percussion Ensemble also treated us to a delightful arrangement of Tchaikovsky’s Dance of the Little Swans, from Swan Lake.
John Williams’ Greatest Hits launched us, quite literally with ET’s Flying Theme, into the second half of the concert, before some smaller ensembles took us on a journey with some wonderful vocal classics, before Handel’s Water Music arranged for two pianos/eight hands led us through to the finale of the concert.
As always, Jazz Band did not let us down! Two fantastic numbers, On the Sunny Side of the Street and Feeling Good with vocal lead, ended the concert in magnificent style.
Every single player was utterly elated at the end of the concert, and it was clear that the audience had enjoyed every bar of music too!

On Friday 5th July, College gathered in the Princess Hall for Leaving Prayers, led by College Chaplain Reverend Rosie, to mark the last day of term.
It was a delight to welcome staff, students and families who enjoyed music from the College Choir and small orchestra of SFC2 leavers, as well as prayers and thoughtful words read by students and staff.
Leaving Prayers also gave College the chance to celebrate Reverend Josie Goodwin, our previous College Chaplain, who passed away this year.

Students were welcomed with a drinks reception in the Princess Hall, followed by a three course meal and live music and entertainment in the marquee, before heading back to the Princess Hall for dancing.
From singing waiters to laughing in the photo booth, it was lovely to see students, their families and staff enjoying the evening.
