End of Term March Sport Roundup
3rd April 2025

Senior Sports Dinner

On Tuesday 18th March, over 180 pupils and staff gathered in the Princess Hall for the 15th annual Senior Sports Dinner.

It’s a wonderful occasion, bringing together pupils across UC4-SFC2 to celebrate their accomplishments across the year.

During the evening, we were joined by our guest speaker, two time Paralympian, Lucy Robinson. Lucy is well known to us at College having taught some of the pupils wheelchair basketball while on the Senior Performance Tour to Loughborough University in October 2024. In addition to attending Tokyo and Paris Paralympic Games, Lucy is also a multiple European and World medalist. All the pupils were inspired by Lucy’s journey and her fantastic accomplishments. We were blessed to have great support from parents, with a large group joining us for a drinks reception, and for the guest speaker and awards.

As with any awards, it is always difficult selecting winners, especially since the accomplishments of our pupils has been so fantastic. We’d like to congratulate our award winners and everyone else for a brilliant year of sport and activity!

Outstanding Achievement

This award is given to a student in any year who has achieved an outstanding success or several successes in sport. This may be a high ranking selection or winning a major title. Again, this was a difficult decision with so many achieving greatness in their chosen sports and activities.

Outstanding Achievement Award

1st Place - Alice UC4

Alice is an incredibly dedicated athlete, competing in both the UK and abroad. Despite having a ridiculously busy schedule, she’s committed to her strength and conditioning work, her sport and her studies.

Her greatest passion lies in skiing. She consistently races amongst the very best Junior races across Europe, often spending extended periods of time away from College, not an easy task when keeping up with academic work.

She was the star of the CLC team at the British Schoolgirls Championships in Flaine at the end of January and last month, she competed in the English Alpine Champs being held in Italy. Alice competed in the Women’s U16 Slalom, a year younger than most competitors and came away with victory, securing the gold medal and taking away the title of the best U16 slalom skier in the country, an incredible achievement!

2nd Place - Sofia SFC1

Having only joined CLC this year, Sofia has done a fantastic job balancing her academics alongside her Strength & Conditioning training and her demanding equestrian commitments.

Having previously represented GB at U16 level, she is not new to high level competition, but this year she has excelled on both of her dressage horses with lots of success at home and abroad at both U18 and U21 level. She is aiming for GB selection into the U18 and U21 teams for the European Championships this summer and has every chance of further success.

3rd Place - Ella UC5

Ella has been incredibly committed to her Netball, traveling across the country to train and compete.

She also works relentlessly in the gym and practicing on her own working on her shooting. In the last year, she has qualified for National Finals with Turnford Netball Club, played in the Hucclecote Netball Club Regional 1 Squad, played U19 for the Birmingham Panthers NPL Squad and won Gold at Europeans as part of the England U17 Team.

Lifetime Achievement

This award is given to a SFC2 student who has achieved many sporting accolades throughout their time at College. This student will have represented College and House in many different sports, attended trips, tours and have been immersed in the sporting life at CLC. They will be an ambassador for sport, demonstrating our values of commitment, ambition, bravery, motivation, discipline, optimism and resilience.

Lacrosse

CLC hosted the six aside South West Regional Tournaments on 19th and 20th March. The lacrosse pitches saw 24 rounds of play per day with approximately 500 pupils from 13 schools participating in lacrosse over the two days.

Every LC1 and LC2 represented College showing the depth and breadth of talent across the year groups.  A U13 and A U12 team qualified for both the Championship and Division 1 knockout stages in their respective tournaments but a special shout out to the incredible U12 CLC Forge team who finished in the top four of the Championship. They played against the eventual winners in semi-final worthy of a final – regulation time plus two overtimes! They only conceded a place in the final to the opposition on goal difference. A big round of applause to both year groups who have now represented CLC in competitive matches across three sports; Hockey, Lacrosse and Netball.

Squash

On Saturday 22nd March, we hosted the annual Squash Cadburys Tournament where we had nine CLC players battling away against external players from other clubs and schools in U19 and U17 categories. We had several comments from other parents about ‘how lovely the CLC girls are and their on court etiquette’.

Tennis

Eleven students undertook day one of their two-day Level 1 Tennis Coaching qualification. It was a long day focusing on how to deliver coaching to beginners aged 4-6 years old. They have five weeks to get volunteering in their local clubs, as well as video assessments to aid their online module. They all worked extremely hard and we're looking forward to seeing their progression on day two.

Golf

Twenty CLC golfers headed to Wellington College on Saturday to play in a fun friendly match. For many, this was the first opportunity to represent CLC in a fixture. The team had a fantastic afternoon with lots of smiling and giggling by all. Well done to everyone, especially those who only started to learn golf this year. An incredible achievement!

Basketball

Another competitive run-out against the Cheltenham Chargers development side. In the final quarter, the team responded excellently to Coach Parker's feedback, increasing work rate and hustling, which led to a significant reduction in unforced errors.

Hockey

What a wonderful, busy finish to an amazing year for hockey. Friday 21st March saw the U12As head to Clifton College for the West Regional Finals where the girls stormed through to the semi finals with four wins and one draw in their pool. We drew Millfield School in the semi final and agonisingly lost 1-0 in the final minute of the match. So many absolute superstars in the team who embodied all our CLC sporting values but particularly commendable was their resilience and incredible respect for their opponents throughout the day!

Saturday 22nd saw a packed schedule home and away with the 1st team winning in fine fashion against Downe House – our focus was on transitions and connections. The team scored three fabulous goals and kept a clean sheet, the 2nds ran their socks off to hold a 1-1 draw with special mention to Phoebe, Charlotte and Athene who all played a second match for us.

The U14s took on Downe House’s U15s and continued to show their incredible collaborative talent with an impressive 4-0 win.

U14 B’s at home hosted a strong CJHC side showing excellent resilience against a very well drilled team. A fantastic year for CLC hockey with U12, U14, and U16’s all qualifying for West Regional Finals and all making the semi-final stages.
