By 6am on Monday 29th April, all nine of our CLC Green members were in the bus ready to go, even if the trailer wasn’t ready! After around two hours we arrived at Mallory Park racetrack. Unfortunately, we missed the practice run due to delays, so we had to go straight in with no practice. A scrutineer safety checked the car before we started the race. We started the race late because of some loose bolts and some flat tires but we were off in no time!
Three of our members, Dora, Alice, and Caris (LC2), drove in the first race. After about 25 minutes, at the wave of a wooden ‘pit now’ sign, we knew we needed to switch the drivers in the pit lane. Pit stops were bustling and slightly chaotic! Our result of the first race (with no experience with the car or racing in general) was 37th.
After lunch, we had our second race with Mary (LC3), Sophie and Pearl (LC2) driving. This time there was more knowledge of the car and the limits that it has. We ended in 26th place, which was an amazing improvement from the previous race.
Well done to Sophie who achieved our fastest lap from the day overall!
It was an amazing first event for the team and we are already thinking of how to develop the car to go further and go faster!
