Congratulations to our International Baccalaureate (IB) students on an excellent set of results achieved this year. Our cohort of 27 students (approximately a fifth of our Upper Sixth year group) has achieved an impressive average point score of 39.3 out of 45, significantly higher than the UK average of 34.7 and the global average of 30.3. Notably, over half of our students scored 40 points or higher, and a remarkable six students scored 43 points or more.
Reflecting on the achievements, Mr Sumner, Head of Sixth Form, said:
“I am so proud of not just the academic achievement of this remarkable group of IB students, but also how they have worked together as a cohort, supporting one another throughout the course. They have a varied set of exciting next steps, and the IB Diploma Programme has undoubtedly set them up to thrive wherever they go.”
The results mean that students have secured UK offers from:
Cambridge for Human, Social, and Political Sciences
Edinburgh for Philosophy and Mathematics
Imperial for Material Sciences and Engineering
King's College London for Sport and Exercise Medical Sciences
Lancaster for Law
Queen Mary university of London for Biomedical Sciences
St Andrews for Chinese Studies and Comparative Literature, Medicine, and Philosophy
University College London for Arts and Sciences, Human Sciences, Medicine, Natural Sciences and Psychology
Students have also secured overseas offers from:
Columbia
Cornell
Northeastern
UC Berkeley
UC San Diego
Principal Eve Jardine-Young commented:
“The opportunity to study the IB Diploma Programme adds a great deal to the distinctive education at our school. These results are a testament to the hard work of students and staff over the past two years. We look forward to seeing our IB Class of 2024 continue to succeed and make a positive impact wherever they go.”
The IB Diploma Programme is a rigorous two-year course of studies that is recognised by universities in the UK and across the world. At CLC, it is available for Sixth Formers as an alternative to A Levels, which are also offered.
Students study six subjects, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, including a native language, a second language, a humanity, a science, maths and the arts. There is also a compulsory ‘Core’ element which comprises an extended essay, theory of knowledge and a programme of creativity, action and service. Results are given out of 45, with a maximum of 7 per subject and 3 awarded for the Core.
Overall, there is an emphasis on the development of research and critical reflection, and on the importance of individual commitment to creativity, maintaining a healthy lifestyle and service to others.
