Independent School of the Year for Academic Excellence in the Southwest 2025
6th December 2024

Cheltenham Ladies’ College has been named Independent School of the Year for Academic Excellence in the Southwest 2025 by The Sunday Times.

This marks the fifth year that CLC has won an award from The Sunday Times ‘Parent Power Guide’, after also being named top for Academic Excellence in the region for the last three years and winning SW Independent Secondary School of the Decade in 2021.

Principal Eve Jardine-Young said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive this award for academic excellence.

“I am extremely proud of the dedication and agility shown by our pupils, who have handled the rapidly changing landscape with maturity and perseverance throughout their studies. The excellent exam results and university places they have achieved, within a highly competitive higher education landscape, is a testament to their hard work and dedication. Their efforts give me great hope for future generations.

“My thanks also go to our fantastic teaching, pastoral and support staff, for the tremendous support and guidance that they have given these pupils over the last few years.”

The award is based on CLC’s academic performance, when compared with all other independent secondary schools across the region. In 2024, we were delighted that CLC pupils achieved 69.5% A*/A at A Level, 68.1% 9/8/A* at GCSE, and an average point score of 39.3 for International Baccalaureate. CLC has also been named the 6th school in the UK and 15th in the world for the IB.

While Cheltenham Ladies’ College is known for academic excellence, this is only a small part of a much bigger picture. CLC prides itself on providing a holistic education, nurturing well-rounded and self-confident girls who develop the skills they need to manage the choices and opportunities ahead of them.
