The annual Junior Concert took place in the Princess Hall on Saturday 22nd June. The concert comprised of musicians from LC1 and LC2, and the audience were made up of those year groups and several parents.
The concert opened with Nerissa, Veeva and Skylar performing their harp trio. The piece, The Little White Boats, was written by our very own harp teacher Mrs White. The three performers captured the lilting character and syncopations of this piece very well.
We had wonderful singing solo performances throughout the concert. Beatrix, Tahlia and Alice sang animated items from The Sound of Music and My Fair Lady respectively, with enthusiasm and communication. Zandra, Belén and Seraphina impressively sang in languages not of their mother tongue, such as German, Italian and French, all from memory, and Caris presented a soothing rendition of the traditional Newfoundland folk-song She’s Like a Swallow.
The audience were also treated to a range of instruments and musical styles. Anya’s phrasing on the piano of a Brahms Intermezzo was exquisite, and Skylar’s extraverted Saxophone playing of Saxsequential got the audience tapping away. Ivana’s lyrical flute playing contrasted well with Yik Man’s mellow tones on the viola and Maya’s haunting Sarabande by Bach on the violin was particularly atmospheric.
Special thanks for this concert go to our accompanists Mr Jones, Mr Lloyd, and Mr Parker and also to all the visiting music teachers who prepared all the students so well for this fantastic concert.
Mr Bailey, Head of Strings
