Library Music Night returned with a bang(er) or two on the last evening of January – a genuine treat for those of us in the audience. Again, all year groups were represented among the performers, and it was humbling to see such spectacular musical talent on show from LC1s to SFC2s.
As per LMN tradition, the House Band, aka ‘Vick and Mick’, opened the show to start us on our way with Joy Williams’ beautifully mellow Front Porch.
And mellow best describes the prevailing mood of the evening, with soulful tunes and thoughtful lyrics the most popular choice among this term’s numbers. Songs by Billie Eilish, The Beatles, Shawn Mendes, and (of course) Taylor Swift featured (in some cases, several times). Excitingly, Erykah Badu and Peggy Lee’s music also made memorable appearances, with wonderfully evocative renditions of Didn’t Cha Know and Fever. Coldplay’s Viva la Vida featured in the second half to raise the spirits – and the roof. Likewise, the SFC Band brought us a triple bill of their current upbeat favourites towards the end of the show, reminding us just how good Beabadoobee’s She Plays Bass really is!
Finally, ‘Vick and Mick, plus Mr Keir on piano’ closed the show with a hugely popular surprise sing-along of Sabrina Carpenter’s Espresso. Needless to say, we did not need the lyrics to join in!
A huge thanks, as always, to all our brilliant performers, our super-supportive and enthusiastic audience, and especially to Miss Brandon, her husband Mick, and Mr Keir. We are so grateful to them for organising yet another excellent line-up and for all their hard work ensuring smooth runnings on the night.
