On Thursday 23rd November, several teams from CLC took part in the annual MFL Debating Competition held at Cheltenham College. It was a demanding afternoon with finalists taking part in five contests. Topics debated included the relevance of the Catholic Church in contemporary Spain, the ethics of eating meat, and whether dogs were nicer than children!
Our teams impressed with their solid arguments, teamwork, ability to think on their feet and to speak accurately under pressure. They had spent weeks practising, and had had a week to prepare the first-round motions.
Our SFC2 Spanish team of Rayan and Martha were runners-up in their competition. Our French team of Ashley and Chandrika (SFC1) won third place, as did our German team of Darby (SFC2) and Imogen (SFC1). Congratulations to all on their outstanding performances.
Thanks to Mrs McDonald, Señora Martinez and Frau Salge-Dexter for their work preparing them and supporting them on the day.
Mr Campbell, Joint Acting Head of MFL
