Tom Voyce is a contemporary British artist 'whose subject matter comprises of a variety of different themes such as interiors and semi abstracted landscapes, often within the notion of place and transit.'
On Saturday 14th October, our SFC1 art students along with three UC4 Scholars spent a day with Tom learning about his approach to painting. He took the students out into the school to make quick, intuitive sketches with a focus on perspective. Back in the studio, students worked on up to four small paintings concurrently, urged to move between, layering the painting and not becoming too invested in any one of them. His energy, enthusiasm and knowledge rubbed off on us all.
Amy shared that she enjoyed moving around College, not being reliant on a photograph and that the experience allowed her to plan her composition and think about the focus of her work.
I have learned to paint in stages and to think about the lights and darks of my piece, by the use of different colours to represent shapes and shadows. I will carry forward this new way of painting to future pieces.
A super experience for all in the run up to Half Term.
