PGC International University Events November 2024
20th November 2024

Continuing on from our exciting programme of events before half term, we were delighted to be able to welcome more university representatives to College over the last couple of weeks.

We rounded off the first week back with a virtual talk from Christina Fulton LeMarbre, Senior Associate Director of International Admissions at Brown University. The PGC Hub was packed with over 30 students and parents also accessed the event online, hearing Christina talk about life as a student at Brown, application requirements and the type of students that Brown will admit. She also touched on the Brown video introduction which they have now put into place instead of their alumni interview programme. This encourages equity across Brown’s applicant pool and gives applicants an opportunity to tell the admissions department more about themselves, in their voice, beyond the information provided in the application. Students and parents also had the opportunity to ask questions ranging from essay topics that are over written and topics that students should stay away from, the collaboration of curricula at both RISD and Brown, and finally, how the standardised testing scores are used as a point of application assessment. For a link to a recording of the talk, please reach out to Miss McCarthy (mccarthyl@cheltladiescollege.org).

Just last week we welcomed Sarah Nash, Director at Study Options, an application service for international students wanting to enrol at universities in Australia and New Zealand. They offer a free service as they are funded directly by the universities. Sarah explained how their support doesn’t just stop after the application is submitted, if successful and you decide to enrol at a university in Australia or New Zealand, Sarah and her team at Study Options help you with securing accommodation, booking flights, opening bank accounts and organising the right medical insurance and other key details. Students asked Sarah lots of questions including the medicine pathways offered at universities in Australia and New Zealand, and which university was her favourite!

Rounding off our series of talks from the top universities in Canada, earlier this week we were delighted to host Kelli Brenton, Recruitment Officer at University of Toronto. Kelli was able to provide students with an amazing insight to the application process at UfT. She explained how you can apply to up to three programmes across the three campuses, ranking them in order of preference. Her session was an excellent opportunity for students to gain clarity on the admissions process, make informed decisions about their academic futures and to ask any questions they had about UfT or applying to universities in Canada in general.

We are always so grateful to all of the speakers and representatives that give up their time to come and visit us at College both virtually and online. We are finishing off our programme for the Autumn Term on Tuesday 26th November at 4.45pm with Leah Putnam, Admissions Counsellor at the Pratt Institute, a private university based in New York City ranked number six in the QS World University Ranking for Art and Design in 2024. Leah will be joining us virtually and will be touching on applying to art schools in the US and the Pratt Institute in particular. All of our talks are primarily aimed at students but parents are always welcome to attend - please contact Miss McCarthy for the login details.
