Psychology Tutor2U Workshop
3rd April 2025

On Tuesday 18th March, SFC2 A Level psychologists took a trip to Vue Cinema in Bristol for a Tutor2U interactive workshop day.

It was an interesting and engaging trip, providing a comprehensive opportunity for us to deepen our understanding of key topics in psychology such as Research Methods and Issues and Debates.

The session began with an exploration of various research method areas, including experimental designs, observational techniques and choosing correct stats tests. We were given a series of tasks and questions to answer in our booklets, before volunteering our answers.

A highlight of the workshop was learning about observational techniques such as event sampling and time sampling. We looked at a video clip of a football game which had been edited to show only every 5 seconds (time sampling) and were asked to tally how many times we saw a certain behaviour. Afterwards, we compared our tallies and found that they were all different. We then evaluated both observational techniques to understand the strengths and limitations of both. This activity was really helpful for knowing how to approach Research Method evaluation questions.

After lunch, we were back in the cinema reviewing critical psychological debates such as nature vs nurture, free will vs determinism and reductionism vs holism. It was very interesting to hear everyone’s answers to the questions we were set, and also very useful in ensuring we remember key terminology in our answers.

To finish the day, we had a super intense maths challenge! The aim of the challenge was to finish first, but all our answers had to be correct to win. If someone had a wrong answer when they were stood up, they had to sit down and someone else would continue. The activity was really fun but also useful in tackling some of the maths that comes up in Psychology.

Overall, the trip was really useful and helped explain some complex aspects of Psychology – such a fun, educational trip that we would love to do again and helped us kick start our final preparations for our exams!
