Recently, CLC’s first ever Psychology week was launched, filled with a variety of activities and prizes.
During the week we had a MythBusters quiz which revealed the truth behind common psychological beliefs. Congratulations to Cece and Aveline in LC1 who participated and won the quiz against the strong field of SFCs! In addition, we had a ‘Morning Lark or Night Owl’ quiz, which tells you whether you are more suited to sleep and wake up early, or the opposite- sleep and wake up late.
We also delved into the biological aspect of psychology in brain anatomy through arts and crafts. Some students made brain hats out of paper, and some even sculpted brains in a clay pottery workshop, with each of the four lobes of the brain painted in a different colour! Others even had time to make a model hippocampus to go inside their brain!
We were also lucky enough to talk to Mrs Davies-Potter over coffee and cake, where she shared with us her experiences in applying psychology to real life, such as teaching a class of difficult children who had absolutely no interest in learning.
Finally, to finish off the week, a psychology-themed cake bake competition was held. Congratulations to the team of LC1s (Cece and Aveline), who came up with delicious rocky road; the team of UC4s (Queena, Joyce, Tiffany and Sabrina), who presented a cake with a shocking resemblance to a real human brain; and the team of SFC1s (Emily, Millie and Rachel), who made a cake featuring the famous psychologist Lorenz and the goslings which imprinted onto him, all made from fondant!
Thank you to all the Psychology Reps who helped with making the advertisement posters and hosting the activities, and to Dr Norman and Dr Stevenson for supporting the team.
