A few years ago, I stumbled across an excellent article about the role of Trotsky in the Russian Civil War, written by Emeritus Professor, Geoffrey Swain from the University of Glasgow; this has now become part of the mandatory annual curriculum digest for SFC Russian historians!
Indeed, Professor Geoffrey Swain is one of this country's leading Russian History scholars and is a prolific writer. Still to this day, he edits much of the historiography surrounding the revolutionary upheavals in Russia 1917-24.
We were fortunate to have Professor Swain come and speak to all our SFC historians in the PAC on Friday 12th January. Professor Swain's talk was timed to fit in with our SFC1 students moving on to the consolidation of Lenin's power, but also in support of our SFC2 students who have mock examinations this term, now augmented by the wisdom of Professor Swain!
