SFC Spanish Cinema Trip
25th September 2024

On Thursday 19th September, in the evening, the Spanish Department took a group of SFC students to Tivoli cinema for the Cheltenham International Film Festival.

We saw the film 'Casa en flames' directed by Dani de la Orden. The plot of the film is focused on a dysfunctional family that go on vacation to their family home in Cadaqués, in Costa Brava, as Montse, the mother, wants to sell the house and spend a final weekend there with the whole family.

It is a phenomenal film, full of emotional moments as well as funny ones, with plot twists and surprises that made me feel a mix of emotions throughout the film. This film shows us the family relationships when the children are all grown up and it makes us reflect about the sacrifices that parents make for their children, especially to give them everything without expecting anything in return.

Also, it shows that there is nothing more human than family arguments and even parents could make mistakes, but in the end, everything will be fine. If there were no obstacles, the family would not have been able to strengthen their bond through overcoming the difficulties together and they would not have been able to improve their relationship.

Although much of the film was in Catalán, we could still put our listening skills to use. In the cinema, we were able to order pizza, cookie dough and of course popcorn so that we could enjoy them during the film. The best thing was that the seats were like a bed!

In conclusion, it was an unforgettable experience and we had a great time.
