As part of our wide-ranging provision for wellbeing, enrichment and personal development, we encourage students to make healthy lifestyle choices that will enhance their physical and mental health positively.
We are therefore pleased to have welcomed a team from Smashed Live to present to the LC2s recently. This award-winning alcohol education programme, set up to tackle underage drinking, was very well received by all and it made quite an impression on our students.
The hour-long event began with a theatrical performance charting the lives of three teenagers and their experiences with alcohol. This was followed by an interactive workshop which explored:
• The social and emotional causes of underage drinking
• Its impact on young lives
• Social influences and decision-making
• Where and how to help oneself and others
The LC2s engaged animatedly and thoughtfully during the workshop and the visiting team led this intuitively and with wisdom.
We are grateful to the Gloucestershire Local Authority and Gloucestershire Healthy Living and Learning who offer the chance for groups such as Smashed Live to visit local schools. This is of great benefit to the young people who attend schools in Gloucestershire, as we are all keenly aware of the need to promote, support and protect students’ wellbeing, knowing this goes hand-in-hand with academic progress.
