Sport Roundup 12th July
11th July 2024

Skiing

A great end to the skiing year with all the students enjoying a day out to Manchester's Chill Factore, which is a fabulous venue for racing.

Students got plenty of time for pre-race warmup runs and the vast majority had a clean first run to boost their confidence for the second go. The whole team had an impressive second run and should be really proud of their performance.

We are waiting for everyone's official results and times, but congratulations to Alice (LC3) who stormed home with the quickest run for any of the female competitors winning the U16 age group.

RAD Ballet Exams

Congratulations to all those who completed their RAD Ballet exams over the last few weeks.

A huge amount of work went into preparing for these exams and we would like to commend all the pupils for their dedication and commitment to dance.

Tennis

Well done to UC4 tennis players Kathryn and Sarah for representing CLC in the area final stage, after winning the school competition in Play Your Way to Wimbledon.

Some fantastic tennis played in great spirit, with Kathryn and Sarah finishing as runners up.

House Athletics

It was an absolute delight to watch everyone step up and give their best for their House, whether it was for their main event or stepping out of their comfort zones to do their bit for their team. The pupils were all stars. With fine weather came fine performances.

A few of the highlights included a fascinating tactical senior 800m race, played out between St Mags' Bea (UC4), Glenlee's Carys (UC4), and St Helen's Charlotte (UC4), with Charlotte timing her run to perfection.

The senior javelin also proved to be an exciting affair, with Glenlee's Sorekunmi (UC4) and St Austin's Mofe (UC5) pushing each other to new heights. Both broke the existing House Athletics Record, with Mofe just edging ahead by 22cm.

The LC1 high jump competition saw Farnley's Mimi and St Helen's Yami both surpass the House age group record, with Mimi managing to edge up the 10-year-old LC1 College record by 1cm!

The event also finished in record-breaking form thanks to Sidney Lodge's senior relay team, with the trio taking three seconds off the Senior House Record.

House Just Dance

Congratulations to everyone who took part in the Just Dance Competition.

What an incredible performance from every House and it was fantastic to see the audience joining in!

Thank you to everyone who took the time to choreograph, practice and perform!

England vs New Zealand Cricket

Fifteen LC2 students relished the opportunity to watch England Women take on New Zealand in the final One Day International (ODI) of the series.

The home side were 2-0 up before the game and the CLC supporters were delighted to see England secure a third emphatic win to be crowned series Champions.

The group were inspired by watching the players manage to execute their performance strategy despite the rain delays and watch female role models playing a game they all love. England now play five T20 games across the UK.

Staff Cricket

A round of applause for all the brave staff who squared off against Cheltenham College and Cotswold School in recent Staff Cricket Matches!

There were moments of sheer brilliance, like Mr Gill's superhero single-handed catches, Mr Dodds' bowling magic, and Mrs Najim and Mrs Guest smashing runs like they were born with cricket bats in hand.

Let's not forget the solid as a rock performances from Mr Peplow, Mr Padley, Mrs Hucker and Mr Graves, and a massive shoutout to Mr Gowan for his epic wicketkeeping skills.

Debut stars Miss Long and Miss Clarke made their mark at Cheltenham College, honing their bowling prowess. A special thanks to Miss Scott for her brilliant scoring – who knew finger-counting could be so precise? Mr Parker, your umpiring was consistently on point and wonderful for matches to finish in a draw!

Thank you to Mrs Najim for organising these games.

Community Day

Thank you to everyone who came and joined in the most wonderful afternoon of sporting activities on Saturday 29th June.

There was a fantastic, relaxed atmosphere with children and adults across all ages enjoying the sunshine and activities.

Thank you to the PE department for organising and to the whole community for taking part.
