Skiing

The skiing team achieved some of the best results ever in some really challenging conditions in Flaine for the British Schoolgirls Ski Racing (24th-29th January). Everyone committed fully to attacking their race and the team support for every member of the team was exceptional – we were quite possibly the loudest team on the hill!

Summary of Results

  • Seraphina, LC2 (U14, non-registered): 3rd place in slalom and 3rd place overall (slalom and giant slalom combined)

  • Alice, UC4: 1st place in both slalom and giant slalom within her age group and overall, thus securing the overall combined prize with the fastest times in both events

  • A Team (Cameron SFC2, Julia SFC1, Alice UC4): 1st team in giant slalom, 3rd team in slalom, and 3rd team overall

  • B1 Team (Katerina SFC1, Margot LC3, Seraphina LC2): 4th place in the non-registered slalom, finishing just behind Wycombe Abbey A team

Netball

On 29th January, every girl in LC1 and LC2 participated in a mass netball fixture against Bromsgrove School. With 11 netball matches simultaneously taking place across CLC, we enjoyed a wonderful afternoon filled with support and smiles.

Over the first weekend of February, we had some brilliant fixtures against Monmouth, involving all age groups. It was a busy yet exciting day, highlighted by outstanding performances across the board. Congratulations to everyone for their fantastic efforts this week!

Lacrosse

The afternoon of Saturday 1st February marked the fourth annual Cheltenham Lacrosse Challenge for our three senior teams as part of the performance preparation cycle leading up to National Schools in March.

Over 200 players from five different schools played in three divisions with all CLC teams delivering excellent application of tactics in various scenarios and unpredictable situations. The mental preparation of handling the unexpected occurrences and environmental factors is just as important as practicing skills.

A huge well done for some strong results that were a direct result of reflections, critical thinking and application of next steps even when under pressure.

Our Lower College teams were also in action with the U12s & U13s playing Godolphin and Latymer in the morning while our U14s travelled away to Marlborough in the afternoon. A special shout out to the amazing U13 team who played an international level tactic with absolute success and to the U14s who had to do some quick thinking when faced with a challenge, ultimately leading to some unique and positive problem solving.

Hockey

There was lots of hockey last week which started with Tuesday night games vs Kings School Worcester. The girls played with great tenacity scoring lots of goals through great use of space. Well done to Val (LC1) who stepped up to play in goal for the first time.

Saturday 1st of February saw fixtures against Downe House with a number of Senior U18 debutants – lots of learning and fresh connections being made.

Swimming

Well done to LC1 Georgia and Izzy, LC3 Chizara and Jess, UC4 Ellie, and UC5 Michelle for their efforts at the County Swimming Championships over the past two weekends.

Special mention to Ellie for setting new long course personal bests in two events and to Chizzy and Georgia for reaching their age group finals. Best of luck to them all for the final weekend of racing in two weeks!

Cross Country

On Saturday 1st of February, Hannah (LC3) represented Gloucestershire Schools in the South West Finals. Competing in Cornwall in very muddy conditions, she put in a determined effort, helping Gloucestershire Schools secure 2nd place in the team standings.

Equestrian

During the last weekend of January, Eliza (UC5) had her 100th pony race, a very rare thing to happen in pony racing, so she was presented with an award for reaching 100 rides. Eliza is only about the fifth person ever to reach the milestone, and is the very first girl to do so. A massive well done Eliza.

Badminton

Well done to all who took part in the House Badminton competition last week.

On Thursday 30th January, we hosted the Badminton National Schools competition and unfortunately just lost out in the KS3 and KS4 events. Well done to all who took part.

Squash

On Tuesday 28th of January, our KS5 squash National Schools team travelled to the prestigious Priory Rackets Club for round two of the competition. They played brilliantly but unfortunately did not make it through to the finals.

On Saturday, we had another Squash fixture, this time against Cheltenham College where we had a great afternoon playing lots of competitive matches.

Tennis

On Saturday, we welcomed local tennis clubs to Well Place for some singles and doubles match play. We had players from LC1 to SFC1 challenging the juniors from Painswick, Oxstalls and Chalford, which was helpful to get students match ready for the Summer Term which will soon be upon us.
