Cheltenham Performing Arts Festival 2024
Fourteen girls entered the Dance Classes of the Cheltenham Performing Arts Festival. This was the first year that CLC has entered the Dance Classes of this prestigious festival and it was a wonderful experience.
Xuan Xuan, Hasadia, Carleen and Alicia (UC4) performed Ballet Solos in the 14 years of age Class. They all received Honours scoring above 85, with Xuan Xuan placing First in this Class with a score of 89. Xuan Xuan also later found out that she was awarded a trophy for her performance, having scored the highest in all the ballet solos from 8 - 14 years of age.
Serafina, Marta, Yuliia (UC4), Bella, Andrea, Lucy (LC3), Allegra, Joanna (LC1) and Zaria (LC2) then took to the stage in the Classical Trio 14 years of age Class. There were many experienced performers in this category and the girls did extremely well to all score Distinctions.
Our final entry was in the Lyrical Modern Class, where Hana (LC3) performed a lovely solo and received a well-deserved Distinction.
Congratulations to all those involved and many thanks to all the dance teachers who spent many hours choreographing, rehearsing and arranging the performance entries.
Marta, Nonni and Karly (UC4) took their Intermediate Foundation Modern exam just before half term and Felicia (UC4) took her Grade 6 Tap. By the end of this month, Marta will have completed five dance exams this year (contemporary, two modern and two ballet), which is a testament to all the hard work she has applied to her dance.
It's been a busy time for College's athletes, with the Monday before half term seeing our LC1-UC4s competing in the English Schools Cup Competition. All must be commended for their efforts, as the competition requires each athlete to compete in two events, one track and one field. Consequently, for the good of the team, students often have to perform in events they wouldn't normally do. All rose to this challenge superbly, and the combined LC3 and UC4 team finished 3rd, while our U13 side, made up mostly of LC1s, showed real grit competing against older athletes.
On the Saturday before half term, with the home track advantage in our meet with King's Worcester, our athletes relished the strong competition and used it to further their performances, highlighted by the 17 season-best performances recorded!
Well done to all on a fantastic few days.

Year 9 Cheltenham & District Schools Athletics Championships
CLC took a small team to their age group athletic championships, which saw a number of notable performances with Jojo making the final of the 100m, Jess finishing in the top six of the shot put and Toby also a top finisher in the discus.
All did superbly and should be commended on their efforts.
Saturday 18th May saw three teams travel away to Malvern St James. They showed amazing resilience as they had to shelter from an epic thunderstorm before going out to finish the game. The U13s played their first hardball T20 game here at College on Farnley Field and rose to the challenge, with eight different players taking wickets. The U15 team had a cup game against Wycliffe on our impressive grass wicket on Field. They put in a super batting innings and bowled out the opposition to set up the next round versus Cheltenham College.
Well done to the students who are out playing club cricket for Dumbleton, Painswick, West Minster and Cheltenham. It is fantastic to see so many students representing their local clubs in Cricket.
Guernsey Tour 2024
Over the exeat weekend, we took our first group of pupils to Guernsey. What a wonderful tour the LC2s enjoyed in partnership with The Ladies’ College, Guernsey. The sun shone throughout our trip and the students enjoyed great hockey in a fixture against our host school and a tournament against local sides. The students also enjoyed an afternoon of coasteering at Petit Bot beach and a day exploring the island of Herm with its amazing empty white beaches. We couldn’t have been hosted more fabulously and the students were amazing throughout embodying all our CLC values!
One of the highlights of the Equestrian teams’ year is attending the National Schools Equestrian Association Championships at Hickstead All England Showground. Riders made the long trip down and stayed with their horses for the weekend.
Hannah (LC2) had a phenomenal result in the Dressage Championship. She had previously won the winter dressage series and at Hickstead she was placed 1st and 2nd with one pony, 2nd and 6th on the other and was Champion of Champions for achieving the highest dressage percentage of the day!
Ursi (SF1) qualified for the Arena Eventing Championships and rode two foot perfect double clear rounds over very testing courses.
Regina (LC3) competed in the Gloucestershire Ladies County Championships with Miss Walton caddying for her. On the first day, players completed 18 holes of strokeplay and Regina finished a brilliant 4th, only one shot off the leaders. The top 16 made it through to the matchplay. Regina was unfortunate to be drawn against the County Captain who is a very mature County player. Regina played well but unfortunately lost on the 18th hole. Regina did exceptionally well considering this is the first time she has played in this tournament.
Cheltenham College Match
The CLC golf team played against Cheltenham College at the end of the Easter Term. CLC had four strong pairings and they played some good golf against a male team from Cheltenham College. Well done!

Guild Reunion 18th May 2024
Saturday 18th May saw Guild members return to College. Guild matches in hockey, lacrosse and netball took place in the wonderful sunshine.
Stories were shared and some vintage lacrosse sticks created a great atmosphere at the Guild Match lacrosse match. Everyone played the first quarter with wooden sticks or the original plastic stick, the Brine Cup, which was cutting edge in its day!
There was fabulous teamwork and lots of laughter throughout.
Lacrosse 6s Tournament Championship
The annual Lacrosse 6s Tournament Championship final on 2nd June saw CLC well represented on the pitch with Lauren Lewis (2015) playing for Hustle and Phoebe Thornett (2020) playing Forge.
It was goal for goal until the final minutes when Phoebe scored the game winner which can be seen on Instagram. https://www.instagram.com/the_flyuk/reel/C7v1ABBN1nz/
Both players will be seen again in major competitions over the coming months with Phoebe representing Scotland at the European Championships in July and Lauren representing England at the first-ever Women's Box World Championships in September.
