Skiing

We are delighted to welcome Alice (LC3) back to College after a phenomenal set of performances in the last few weeks.

Alice has built on her first international win last season in Andorra by winning three races in Bulgaria last week racing for the U16 GB children's team. She now has four FIS international slalom wins to her name. This is an incredible achievement and so rewarding after another busy season of training and racing. Congratulations!

Netball

Over the last two weeks, CLC has had teams in all age groups competing in the Cheltenham & District Netball Tournaments hosted here at College.

Our U12s dominated their tournament, winning all their games in the pool stages, led by LC1 Seraphina’s impressive shooting. Despite challenging weather conditions, they placed 3rd after a closely contested match against Balcarras, followed by a victory against Cheltenham Prep.

More success followed with the U15s in their Cheltenham and District tournament, clinching 1st place and bringing home the trophy, without dropping a single game.

The U14s continued the winning streak and through consistent effort and strategic gameplay, in freezing and wet conditions, they navigated through the competition with ease to secure the victory. This achievement highlights the student’s dedication to netball over the past term and we look forward to seeing them continue to progress next year.

On Friday, the Senior 1st and 2nd teams faced Wycliffe in the eagerly anticipated Varsity Friday Night Lights matches. With music, entertainment, and large crowds, the 2nd team worked together seamlessly, moving the ball through the court beautifully and securing a decisive 25-7 victory. The 1st team then engaged in a thrilling match, which had everyone on the edge of their seats. With wonderful transitions up the court and standout defensive plays from Poppy (SFC1), they triumphed with a 32-28 win. Thank you to all supporters for making it an unforgettable night!

Swimming

In recent weeks, College has seen three of our swimmers in action at the Gloucestershire County Swimming Championships. Among them, Jess (LC2) demonstrated remarkable performance, securing seven top 10 finishes from her 15 swims. Additionally, Chizara (LC2), participated in six events, with her standout achievement being a place in the final for her favoured event, the 50m Backstroke. Ellie (LC3) also made a splash, competing in six events and achieving personal bests in three of them.

Congratulations to LC2 Jess and Chizara, LC3 Anika and Ellie, and UC4 Michelle, for their outstanding performances at the Bath & Otter Relays in the London Olympic Pool. Both line-ups not only surpassed their target times but also showcased determined swims in both heats.

Lacrosse

CLC had three senior teams participating in the Charlie Waller Trust Invitational Tournament at Marlborough on Saturday. Adapt and conquer were the watchwords for players and staff alike when faced with challenges on the day. The players gained a greater understanding of the conditions they might face next weekend at Nationals and the adjustments they might have to make when obstacles arrive.

There were a number of wins and losses across the 15 games played with a number of close score lines.  Congratulations to the 1st team who made it to the Plate Final and well done to everyone involved on the day!

Hockey

CLC 1st team played Millfield in a competitive match played at an exceptionally high pace with both teams using space incredibly effectively. We grew into the game really pushing Millfield in the final two quarters through effective high pressing and quick small unit attack play.

We then played Christ College Brecon starting very slowly but through some good quarter time reflections, were able to start controlling large parts of the game and an Anna (UC5) hattrick meant we came through 3-2 winners in a well-matched fixture.

Badminton

CLC played the second round of the U14 and U16 Gloucestershire Badminton League at Bournside School. This is a strong event made up of players from local clubs and different schools. The CLC team produced some fantastic performances.

On Saturday, the U18 team played a fixture against Bromsgrove. There were some excellent matches through the afternoon, played at a high standard with CLC narrowly winning.

Volleyball

The U18 team hosted Bromsgrove on Saturday. The team set off, trialling new rotations implemented by Katie and Aerin. It was great to see them using their positions on the court advantageously, enabling them to adapt to their opponent’s tactics. It was an incredibly close match, with some thrilling and exciting rallies. The intense game provided valuable experience for the team to improve their skills and teamwork through competitive matches while utilising effective communication.
