The six-day, five-night hockey & lacrosse tour to Germany was filled with tournament play, matches and training sessions. Wrapped around the sporting activity were the wonderful additional experiences of attending an ice hockey match, seeing the sights of Köln (Cologne) and a guided tour of the Germany Sports University.
The tour party arrived in Frankfurt on Friday and spent the first evening at an ice rink watching the home side take on their rival club Berlin. The atmosphere was electric! Everyone enjoyed seeing a different sport with complex tactics, top level skills and, of course, purchasing stash.
On Saturday and Sunday, the group attended the Scheider Cup. The club hosted four tournaments onsite, U20 Girls & Boys as well as U14 Girls & Boys, making for a great weekend of lacrosse. CLC came third at the tournament, only losing to the two teams who played in the final. The matches across both days provided extraordinary scenes. The CLC team earned a strong fan following for their performance and good sportsmanship regardless of the scoreline. The lacrosse players had a well-deserved rest on Monday before finishing the tour in style with another great game against a regional combined side on Tuesday evening.
Hockey kicked off their matches on Sunday with a victory and some great post-match homemade food with the host club. The players did not slow down for the next few days as Monday and Tuesday saw the team participate in double headers of a training session followed by match play. In Mönchengladbach, the players had an hour’s training session with a local club coach followed by a fantastic match in the evening. The following day’s schedule consisted of a short, sharp indoor training session at the German Sports University, ahead of our upcoming Regionals in November. We then finished the tour strong with a 3-3 scoreline in the final match.
Sports tours offer so much more for players than just a lot of matches. The experiences that occur on the fringes are what make the memories for all involved. Some of the moments that stand out are the singalong sessions on the coach journeys, or the game of Grandmother’s Footsteps at the airport when the flight was delayed. It was an absolute pleasure to watch and support our teammates and colleagues in action. Suffice to say, it was a successful and action-packed October half term tour enjoyed by everyone involved - we are already looking forward to the next one!
With the end of the eventing season, Arena Eventing has started for the Equestrian Team! The first fixture was at Rectory Farm which, as usual, set challenging and educational courses for both horses and riders. The competitions were hotly contested with CLC riders showing strong performances in huge classes.
Ursi (SFC1) was 4th as an individual in the 80cm class and the 100cm team of Katherine (SFC1), Christina (UC4), Bea (UC4) and Issy (LC3) produced excellent rounds to win the competition, and they all qualified for the Championships at Hickstead next May. Katherine was individual 3rd, Issy 4th and Gabriella L (UC5) 5th.
Congratulations go to Hannah (LC2) and Olivia (LC3) for some amazing results. Hannah won her class at the Working Equitation Championships and her South West Team were also Champions! Olivia is Novice British Reserve Vaulting Champion and Hannah was 4th in the Pre-Novice Championship class. Olivia has now been selected for the Vaulting Performance day in recognition of her potential and consistent performance this year.
The CLC U18 indoor hockey team did themselves proud as they won their Regional qualifiers, recording two wins and a draw to earn their spot at the Regionals finals.
Congratulations to Xuan Xuan (UC4), who achieved 3rd place in the Classical Ballet Division C at the Miami International Ballet Competition - Open Asia (HK). This is a fantastic result and well deserved.
Congratulations to Issy (SFC2) and Jiya (UC4) who have been selected for the U18 and U15 Gloucestershire Cricket winter training squads.
Following their success and podium finishes at the Southern Schools Race, Cameron (SFC2), Waka (SFC2) and Alice (LC3) have been invited to represent and train with the National Schools Alpine Ski Squad this winter. This is a fantastic achievement and demonstrates the commitment these students display with their ski racing.

We took 19 students to Spain for the Senior Netball Performance Tour at the start half term. With warm weather greeting us, the start of the tour was spent exploring the town of Salou where we were staying. We enjoyed the first day of sightseeing and shopping in Barcelona, visiting the Olympic stadium and concourse as well as buying souvenirs and matching t-shirts.
Before the netball coaching began, we all spent a day at PortAventura theme park, which was great fun and enjoyed by all. The netball coaching sessions were excellent and the recovery S+C session on the beach in the sunshine was fabulous.
The final day was busy with a final coaching session and culminating in a tournament, which saw CLC take the winning and runner up spots. A fabulous tour, with some wonderful memories and netball experiences.
