Alice (LC3) has been selected to represent the GBR children's team in the Czech Republic this month. This race will fall just before she joins the rest of the CLC ski team for the British Schoolgirls Races in Flaine, France. We are immensely proud of Alice - this is the second year she will represent GBR.
This year, CLC will have four teams representing College at the British Schoolgirls Races.
Gor-Bua (SFC1) travelled home early ahead of the Christmas break to compete in the Thai National Championships for Dressage. Dressage riding is a sport that takes a considerable amount of training, with years of dedication required to build the partnership between horse and rider. Gor-Bua’s dedication and commitment to training paid off over Christmas as she came away with victory, and she is now the Thai National Champion – an incredible achievement!
Congratulations to Penelope (UC5) on getting a place on the English National Ballet School Spring Intensive Programme. She will spend four days at ENBS in Chelsea, getting a taste of life at the English National Ballet School, participating in daily ballet classes, repertoire classes, contemporary, and choreography classes. All the best Penelope, enjoy the experience!
Through her success within the U18 County cricket setup, Issy (SFC2) has been selected to go on the Sri Lanka tour in February. The squad will play five 40-over games against local opponents. The coaches for the trip are ex-England international and current Western Storm player, Fran Wilson, and fellow Western Storm teammate, Mollie Robbins.
In between competitive action and team training sessions, the squads will have the privilege of visiting a turtle hatchery and will experience a riverboat safari whilst also taking in the sights. We wish her all the best for the trip and what an amazing way to kick-start the cricket season.
The golf team played a fabulous regional final in glorious still winter conditions at Burford Golf Club on Saturday. As a neutral venue for both teams, all players had to adapt to a new course. The students looked sharp in their warm-ups and all had aspects of their games they were happy with, however, a strong St Edward’s Oxford team took the win on Stableford points.
Six teams participated in the St Mary's Calne Cup on Saturday. It was fantastic to have every age group playing lacrosse on the first Saturday of term!
With Regional and National tournaments coming up in March there are a number of competitions to prepare for. Match experience is essential to learning as it provides the opportunity to create greater understanding in contextual situations, and allows for improvement in real time.
Strong performances from the 1st and U14 teams were highlights on the day, especially the performance of the 1st team in their final game. This definitive win against Marlborough College demonstrated the resilience, camaraderie, skill, and tactical savvy of this exceptional group of players.
For the first Saturday of the year, CLC had up to 90 students from LC3, UC4, UC5 and SFC1 showcasing their netball talent in a fixture against Wycliffe College. All games were played in excellent spirit with CLC dominating throughout. The focus was on creating space and maintaining possession, and the players worked hard to win the turnover ball and convert to goals. With several players adapting to new positions, and many teams having no subs, the players demonstrated resilience and versatility as they contested every ball. Well done to all!
A combined senior team welcomed local club side Cheltenham to CLC for an opening game. It was a great test for the team who had to work hard to find their connections, space and effective communication. The game was a chance for all players to transition into the second half of the season.
CLC hosted the Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 National Schools Competition. CLC teams played Pates, Rednock, Balcarras and High School Leckhampton. Both CLC teams fought hard against National and County players and came 3rd.
This was followed by a great match against St Mary’s Calne on Saturday. CLC took a comfortable win across the age groups. Plenty of match experience was gained by all players involved in the fixture.
Well done to Dr Hawkins (Teacher of Maths) and her fellow GB teammates who finished 7th in the European Championships, securing a place at the World Championships.
It’s wonderful to hear that Guild Member Lauren Lewis (2015 Leaver) is playing in the first-ever women’s edition of the Box Lacrosse League. She has been performing consistently well throughout the season and is one of the top goal-scorers.
