Georgia Brealey (St Hildas, 2023)
Georgia was selected as Vice-Captain of the Luxembourg Women’s Team for the European T20 quadrangular tournament. They played in fixtures against Romania, Greece and Serbia during the tournament that took place in Corfu 3 – 10 September 2023.
Netball
Last weekend, Ella (UC4/Year 10) and Verity (UC5/Year 11) were playing for the Severn Stars U15 team in the National Academies Tournament. The tournament featured U15 sides from the 10 professional English sides and teams representing Wales and Scotland. Both Ella and Verity got plenty of game time, helping Severn Stars to a very respectable 6th place overall.
In addition, Ella also played in the U17 Netball Premier League tournament and, following a great showing, has been invited to the England Roses U17 assessment day.
Hockey
England Hockey has recently updated the talent pathway, with players at a ‘regional’ level being guided through a series of ‘Talent Academies’ dotted around the country. We currently have four pupils in talent academies, Liv (UC4/Year 10), Anna (UC5/Year 11), Sophie (SFC1/Year 12) and Bella (SFC2/Year 13). The end of year crescendo is the Talent Academy Festival, at which Anna and Sophie were selected and both learnt a lot from playing amongst the very best age group players nationally.
Pre-Season Training Camp 2023
The PE Department ran both a Senior and Junior Pre-Season Training camp at the start of September. The camps were well attended by new and current pupils over the five days. We welcomed a range of fantastic guest speakers who lead some brilliant sessions with our athletes including SpeedWorks (developing coaches and athletes in all things speed), Ella Powell-Davies (Wales International Netballer who has just returned from the World Cup in South Africa), Ash Gloucester (who led England Lacrosse to Bronze in the 2017 World Cup) and Ben Marsden (ex-International England Hockey Player). The athletes were exposed to theory and practical sessions as well as enjoying spending time relaxing with their teammates.
First Saturday of Fixtures
Lacrosse – 43 players from the Senior and U15 lacrosse teams were out playing an early season friendly with and against the Cirencester club. The match play was structured to manage both the number of players and the heat of the day. A great team effort by the students, the club side and CLC staff!
Hockey – A fantastic start to the year for our 1st and 2nd hockey teams with a large number of debuts in a brilliantly competitive triangular with RGS Worcester and Collegiate. All games were tremendously well matched, with CLC coming away with some fantastic wins and draws. A great start to the season!
Netball - We saw a fantastic turn out for the internal training which ran last week. It was brilliant to see so many netballers preparing for the season ahead.
Badminton - 26 students competed in some internal doubles matchplay with a twist! Partners were picked then they had to play with them and then against them. Individual points were totaled together! Congratulations to Annie (UC4) who came in first place.
