On Tuesday 7th May, the String Serenaders performed a superb lunchtime recital at Pittville Pump Room.
The programme included music by 10 different composers so there was a huge variety of music and styles for the audience.
The concert opened with Cheltenham-born Holst's Jig from his St Paul's Suite, followed by a compelling Concerto Grosso in C minor by Corelli.
Sonorous items included Faure's Pavane and Mascagni's Intermezzo.
The wonderful acoustic in the hall was ideally suited to Elgar's Sospiri where our harpists Pearl (UC5) and Janice (UC5) joined the String Orchestra. We were also joined by Saskia (SFC1) on flute to perform Vaughan Williams's Fantasia from Greensleeves. Mozart Divertimento in D major was played with finesse and verve.
Passionate playing was on display in Czardas by Monti and this was contrasted with Johann Strauss's Pizzicato Polka where our students "plucked" impeccably well together in this light-hearted work.
The concert ended with Copland's virtuosic Hoedown to rapturous applause from a large audience.
This concert was the accumulation of the last 18 months of dedication work by the String Serenaders. Preparing an hour of music to a consistently high standard is no easy task - it was a fantastic achievement.
Well done!
