On Friday 17th November, the first Those Who Dare session of the year truly set a precedent. This year, the Professional Guidance Centre invited 17 astounding guests to join the students in a discussion about what the future looks like as a professional in their fields.
The variety of occupations never fails to amaze me, but suffice to say, the individuals who generously gave us their time and expertise were of such diversity that it is likely such a mixture of different disciplines have rarely stood under the same roof together in the history of CLC. From breast cancer surgeons to landscape architects, librarians to human resources, the session truly had something to offer for everyone.
I, for one, learned a lot about landscape architecture, including the construction process of my home town, which was a surprising moment of revelation.
The passion of others is inspiring, and the variety of paths taken serves to remind us that there really is no prescribed formula to the workplace, an idea which students may comprehend conceptually, but not truly appreciate until now. I'd like to express my gratitude to the PGC and the inspiring individuals who were kind enough to share with us all.
It was an absolute pleasure to meet with so many smart and articulate students on Friday. I was extremely impressed by the questions which they posed, inferring insight into the economy and appreciation of corporate challenges, especially with regard to ESG. With these types of young women as leaders of the future, the work place will be in good hands! - Petrina Austin, guest and Guild member
