On Tuesday 1st October, eight singers from SFC (Years 12/13) and UC (Years 10/11) gave a lunchtime recital to a capacity audience at Pittville Pump Room, as part of the Cheltenham Music Festival Society’s Young Musicians Platform.
It was a varied programme of music, with joyful arias from Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro and Bach’s Magnificat, a moving performance of the Pie Jesu from Rutter’s Requiem, art songs by Barber, Head and Madeleine Dring, alongside songs from shows including Kiss Me Kate, Miss Saigon and Phantom of the Opera. The performance culminated in the SFC1 Vocal Ensemble performing Why We Sing by Greg Gilpin.
It was a true celebration of the wide variety of repertoire studied in the Vocal Faculty, and a great opportunity to share this with the Cheltenham concert-going public.
Sincerest congratulations to Bel, Izzy, Olivia, Siena, Beatrice, Tilly, Molly and Terra for their impressive, beautiful, communicative and engaging performances. Many thanks to our new colleagues in the Music Department, Miss Fu and Mr Carr, for their excellent work accompanying the students – we are all delighted to have them as part of the team!
The audience were immensely appreciative of the entire programme, showed by the loud and lengthy applause that followed.
Mr Parker, Head of Vocal Studies
