Earlier in the year, six SFC1 (Year 12) students participated in the UK National round of the World Economics Cup.
The competition was split into three sections, Fundamentals, Deep Comprehension, and Thinking & Innovation. The Fundamentals section consisted of around 50 questions about economic theory. Our A Level and IB economics lessons really aided us with this section. The questions ranged from topics such as supply and demand to measures of inequality, such as the Gini Coefficient.
In the Deep Comprehension section, we responded to an article about how firms use energy. Finally, in the Thinking and Innovation section, we answered questions about an article which used economics to tackle pressing issues.
After competing against other UK schools, we were selected to represent the UK in the European Internationals round and achieved a gold medal as a team, placing CLC in the top 5% of UK schools.
In August, we will spend a week immersed in economics: listening to lectures, using an economics perspective to solve real-life problems, and then presenting our solutions to a panel of judges.
