A new CD of Christmas carols by the Choir of Cheltenham Ladies’ College.
Recorded in CLC’s Princess Hall earlier this year, this collection brings together best loved Christmas carols, alongside new arrangements and original compositions written especially for College Choir. There are delightful versions of classics such as ‘Away in a Manger’, ‘Carol of the Bells’, and ‘O Holy Night’, works from contemporary choral composers including Bob Chilcott and Will Todd, and a carol by Dominic Hawley. Together, this collection is the perfect choral accompaniment to anyone’s Christmas celebrations.
The title of this recording is the original first line of ‘O come all ye faithful’, and singing this carol in Latin has been a College tradition for as long as anyone can remember. We felt this collection would not be complete without the sound of a rousing CLC rendition of ‘Adeste Fideles’, and it was a joy to take over prayers one Wednesday morning in February to record the whole college in strong voice, giving pupils and staff the experience of what goes into making a recording. We hope the resulting track – and this whole collection – gives a small but powerful insight into this aspect of College life and, for members of the College community, brings to mind fond memories of College at Christmas.
