Senior South West Lacrosse Tournament

The lacrosse players representing CLC at the Senior South West Regional Tournament produced two incredible team performances over the Exeat weekend.

Playing in smaller squads than usual and with the 2nd team short a specialist goalkeeper, this extraordinary group of young people stepped up to the challenge in every game, demonstrating commitment, perseverance, resilience and teamwork.

The 2nd team went onto secure a place in the Championship Division (top 8 finish) while the 1st team made it to the Division 1 final and finished Runners Up.

Congratulations to every player involved for these amazing achievements.

Gloucestershire Hockey Association (GHA) Qualifying Rounds

Last week, the U18s played in their county qualifying tournament to try to reach the West Regional Qualifiers. The team battled valiantly throughout the day with every game being incredibly tight. We only conceded one goal all day, but unfortunately missed out on qualification due to securing too many draws along the way. Well done to all involved.

Hockey had another busy week with the U16 GHA qualifying tournament. The squad were unbelievably good during the group stage, topping the group with three wins and one draw, scoring 11 goals and conceding none. That put CLC through to a semi-final knockout game to qualify for the West Regionals. The team had some great opportunities, however, fabulous saves from the Balcarras goalkeeper resulted in a tight penalty flick competition followed by a sudden death penalty flick. Balcarras pipped us to the final and won the match. CLC demonstrated excellent resilience and kept their nerves throughout. We couldn’t be prouder of all the squad!

Annual House Running Competition

Our recent House Running Competition for Lower College was a resounding success, with all students involved demonstrating commitment and determination as they pushed themselves in their respective events. Their spirited efforts created a wonderful sense of camaraderie and support amongst participants. Well done all!

South West Swimming Championships

Last week, the junior and intermediate swim teams showcased exceptional teamwork and skill at the South West Schools Team Swimming Championships. The junior team, featuring Georgie and Serina (LC1) alongside the experienced duo Jess and Chizara (LC2), demonstrated their prowess with determination and finesse. Notably, Chizara achieved a personal best in the 50m Freestyle.

Meanwhile, our intermediate team, Anika and Ellie (LC3) alongside Michelle and Daisy (UC4), delivered outstanding performances. Michelle and Daisy set new relay best times, with Michelle excelling in Backstroke and Daisy shining in the Fly Split. Ellie also achieved a school PB in the Freestyle Relay. Congratulations to all our swimmers!

 Swim Gala

In another thrilling gala, our U12 and U13 swim teams went up against a well-matched Beaudesert team. Our teams exhibited enhanced confidence in their race execution compared to their performance in the first match last week and displayed exceptional determination in their swims. It was truly a delight to witness as they achieved impressive timings at this early stage of the season. Well done to all the participants, and a special commendation goes to those who set new personal best times:

LC1:

  • Georgie in the 25m Breaststroke

  • Serina in the 25m Breaststroke

  • Annika in the 25m Butterfly

LC2:

  • Jess in the 25m and 50m Freestyle

Ski Racing News

Another great day of racing for the 16 students from the ski racing team at the Southern Schools Race in Hemel Hempstead. Everyone managed to set some quick times with just split seconds between many of the CLC team, proving that everyone is benefiting from the training and making great improvements.

After a hiccup in the first run, Cameron (SFC1) put in a fantastic performance under pressure, to give her second place in the U19 age category. Waka (SFC1) improved on her impressive first time in her final run to finish 4th in the U19s. Alice also edged ahead on her first run to secure the fastest time of the day, finishing 1st in the U16s. The A Team, which included Gabriella, finished 2nd in the team event. Congratulations to everyone involved on a fantastic performance.

Super Saturday of Fixtures

Last weekend, CLC took part in a Super Saturday event which involved both Netball and Lacrosse teams at Westonbirt School. The day featured the participation of 14 netball and six lacrosse squads, encompassing all year groups. It was a day that highlighted the commitment, teamwork and work ethic of all CLC Netball and Lacrosse players, showcasing the talent and dedication of pupils. While the focus wasn't on the outcome, all teams proved to perform exceptionally well, and the day provided an opportunity for pupils to play in new combinations and develop key movements to allow for effective spacing. It was wonderful to see so many spectators on the side, including parents, friends and fellow students. Their encouragement added to a very successful day.

Congratulations to all of the LC1 and LC3 players who made their match debut in Lacrosse along with a special recognition of our goalkeepers in every age group - it is the toughest job on the pitch and those that step up to play in goal deserve to be celebrated.

Badminton

CLC had a great afternoon of fixtures against Wells Cathedral School, playing lots of singles and doubles. We look forward to seeing the squad progress to the next round of the national cup.
