We are delighted that announce that UC4 student Bea (Year 10) has won the Sustainable Design Category in the Regional Final of the prestigious competition Young Fashion Designer 2023! On Saturday 10th June, she attended the final at RGS Worcester and presented her research on sustainable fabrics, along with her design sketches for a full clothing range made from eco-fabrics, to a panel of industry experts. Bea went above and beyond the requirements of the competition to actually produce one of the garments, a pair of linen trousers for which she created entirely bespoke pattern pieces.
Bea is also a talented and committed upcycler, having won joint first prize in CLC’s Upcycled Fashion Competition in March. She has been instrumental in helping St Hilda's East (SHE) launch their own version of the Upcycled Fashion Show and is currently working with a group of Year 6 students who are part of the 'Brave Girls' project at SHE.
Bea visited them in her half term holiday to launch the project and run a workshop to help them kick-start their creations. She is looking forward to working further with the ‘Brave Girls’ during her summer break, and helping them create their outfits for ‘The SHE Shoreditch Edit’.
